Gillette Woods is a private, residential community located in and around Tryon, North Carolina. It was first developed in 1927 and named after the actor William Gillette, who previously owned the entire 700 acre area. The community now consists of nearly 300 single-family properties within the boundaries of the development.

The Gillette Woods Association was founded on November 28, 1945 by a committee comprised of like-minded residents who wished to preserve the tranquility and beauty of the Gillette Woods neighborhood. Articles of Incorporation were adopted by the property owners of Gillette Woods in December, 1978, with Article 2 stating as its Object: “To Protect and promote the interests of owners of property in the tract known as Gillette Woods…” The Object and purposes have been maintained since the founding of the organization and Protective Covenants, duly recorded in the Office of Register of Deeds for Polk County, North Carolina. Gillette Woods Association, Inc. is a registered 501 (c)(4) non-profit North Carolina Corporation.
